Alocasia 'Antoro Velvet' Medium
Near‑black velvet leaves with silvery veins and depth
The leaves are very dark green to near‑black with a soft, pubescent ‘velvet’ surface and strong pale‑to‑silvery veins that catch light. Individual blades are arrowhead‑shaped with upright petioles, giving a vertical, sculptural silhouette; some plants show a reddish or burgundy tint beneath the leaf. The overall visual effect is dense, low‑gloss foliage with crisp vein contrast rather than a shiny surface.
Indoors this is a compact, clumping Alocasia that makes new growth from corms and offsets; leaves remain entire (no splits or holes), and the plant keeps an upright, non‑trailing habit. Compared with the familiar Alocasia 'Frydek', Antoro Velvet is usually darker, more velvety to the touch and stays more compact and sculptural — useful when you want the velvet look without large spreading growth. Note: the name is a trade selection rather than a formally published botanical cultivar, first popularised by specialist growers.
In everyday ownership expect a plant that rewards bright, filtered light and steady humidity but also shows stress if conditions are too dry or cold; common issues include crisp edges in low humidity or yellowing from overwatering. It is toxic if ingested, so keep out of reach of children and pets. Variegated or pink sports are sought after by collectors but can be less stable in growth.
Best suited to tabletops, shelves or compact plant corners, this specimen is offered as a medium, sold in a 14 cm pot — the supplied size arrives as a neat, ready‑to‑display clump. Alocasia 'Antoro Velvet' Medium

The plant looks exactly like the photo. It has good soil and root system. Unfortunately, delivery to Cyprus took a long time, so it needs some rehabilitation. But I'm still very impressed!
