Monstera Obliqua Peru
Monstera Obliqua Peru is a trade-name plant (listed as Monstera obliqua 'Peru') — a tropical climbing aroid noted for its highly perforated, paper‑thin leaves. Indoors it grows as a vining plant that benefits from very high humidity and a vertical support, so it suits experienced collectors using terrariums or humid cabinets; its identity is often uncertain in trade and it is toxic to pets.

Highly perforated, paper-thin foliage with lacy silhouette
This plant presents dramatically thin, almost translucent leaf tissue and a high density of perforations that can make each blade look more lace than leaf. Monstera Obliqua Peru is described in trade as having very small, delicate leaf blades with a fragile, ethereal silhouette and a visibly papery texture—an effect that reads as airy and light on a shelf or inside a glass cabinet.
In indoor development it behaves as a vining, aerial-rooting aroid that naturally climbs or attaches to moist vertical surfaces. True obliqua forms are reported to remain small-leaved and persistently heavily fenestrated even as they mature; by contrast, karstenianum-type “Peru” trade forms tend to develop thicker, textured leaves, and Monstera adansonii usually has a sturdier lamina with fewer, larger holes. Those differences—lamina thickness and fenestration density—are the most useful visual anchors when comparing plants.
Real-world ownership means specialist expectations: this form is sensitive to low humidity, prone to browning at dry edges, and can support spider mites or thrips if conditions are dry. It is slow-growing and benefits from a moist vertical support (moss pole or cork) for its aerial roots. One honest limitation: the retail name ‘Obliqua Peru’ is used inconsistently in commerce, so the supplied plant may follow one of several growth habits and care needs.
Best for humid cabinets, terraria or a dedicated bright-shelf spot. Available as a Baby (small shelf, desk, grow-on option) or a Medium (shelf, side table, desk) — the Baby suits a grow-on or cabinet project, while the Medium offers a more immediate, leafy display.

Plant questions, answered
Is this plant a true Monstera obliqua or could it be a different Monstera traded as 'Peru'?
expand_more
Not necessarily. The label Monstera obliqua 'Peru' is a trade designation and many plants sold under "obliqua" or "Peru" are misidentified in commerce. True Monstera obliqua is rare in cultivation, so expect some uncertainty and ask the seller for photographic provenance or verified identification if a genuine obliqua is required.
How does Monstera obliqua 'Peru' differ from Monstera adansonii or other 'Peru' trade-forms?
expand_more
Monstera obliqua 'Peru' (if genuine) typically has much thinner, paper-like leaves and a higher density of fenestration than Monstera adansonii. Trade-forms called "Peru" can instead be karstenianum-type plants with thicker, textured leaves. The practical difference is appearance and care: true obliqua is more delicate and humidity‑sensitive.
What humidity and environmental conditions does Monstera Obliqua Peru need?
expand_more
Monstera Obliqua Peru generally requires very high humidity—many sources recommend 70–90%—and stable warmth. It is sensitive to low humidity (browning or crisping) and to rapid moisture swings in the substrate. Expect to provide a consistently humid, well‑ventilated environment and avoid waterlogged roots to reduce stress.
Is this plant suitable for terrariums, plant cabinets or a typical living-room shelf?
expand_more
Yes, Monstera Obliqua Peru is well suited to humid microclimates like terrariums or plant cabinets where humidity and temperature are stable. It can also sit on a shelf if you can maintain high humidity and provide a vertical support for aerial roots. Dry conditions increase risk of spider mites and leaf damage.
Is Monstera obliqua 'Peru' safe around pets?
expand_more
No, Monstera obliqua 'Peru' contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Monstera species can cause oral irritation, drooling and vomiting; keep the plant out of reach, or avoid purchase if pets access indoor plants freely.
What size will I receive and where is each size best placed?
expand_more
This listing offers two size variants: Baby (P6 H15) and Medium (P12 H25). The Baby suits a small shelf, desk or grow-on option; the Medium fits a shelf, side table or fuller display for greater visual impact. Variant availability can vary, so check the chosen size at checkout.

Happy to receive my baby plants, they look healthy and full of live. The problems I had with transportation were solved in a friendly manner by replacement or refund. Higly recommending.
Super healthy and full of lif. 5 stars!

Big fancy leaves with stars?! I gasped, snorted, and gasped again. It looks like the sky fell into a pot and I am in love.
