Bright red juvenile leaves that fade to green

This compact philodendron shows new foliage in a dramatic red-to-copper tone that ages through burgundy into plain green, making each fresh shoot an eye‑catching contrast in a pot. Leaves are glossy, broadly heart‑shaped and smooth to the touch; petioles and young stems commonly show reddish or coppery tones. The overall silhouette in retail form is a neat, freely-branching mound rather than a large, split‑leaf specimen — the surface is non‑fenestrate (no holes or splits).

As a juvenile, it’s typically sold as a compact heart‑leaf plant and will remain with smaller leaves until encouraged to climb. Given a pole or other support the stems will lengthen and arch, producing larger leaves over time; without support it keeps a trailing or arching habit. New‑leaf colour is ontogenic — each fresh leaf opens red and then matures to green — and brighter indoor light helps keep that red tone stronger.

Owners enjoy the immediate colour punch, but expect a trade‑off: the red is transient and light‑dependent, so lower light means less colour. Like other aroids it prefers even moisture and moderate humidity and is toxic if chewed, so keep away from pets and children. It can also attract common aroid pests if not checked.
