The Philodendron mexicanum is a rare climbing aroid prized for its elongated, tri-lobed foliage that becomes more dramatic with maturity. Each leaf features a slender central blade with two long, distinct “dog ear” lobes at the base—one of the most striking silhouettes among philodendrons.

This species is often mistaken for Philodendron atabapoense or mamei, but you can easily tell it apart by its mature leaf shape: mexicanum develops exaggerated posterior lobes that curve downward, while its upper surface stays matte green and the underside often glows maroon in bright light.
