Alocasia Clypeolata Green Shield XS baby | Fast EU shipping | Grown with love in the EU
Summary: Small in size but big on drama, this baby Alocasia shows off glossy, shield-shaped foliage with deep green veins that instantly adds a rare tropical edge to shelves, desks, and plant cabinets. Perfect for collectors looking for a compact statement plant for European homes and German apartments.
Place your Alocasia Clypeolata Green Shield in bright, indirect light for the healthiest growth and strongest leaf colour. A spot close to an east- or north-facing window is ideal, while harsher direct summer sun can scorch the foliage. In darker German apartments, keep it near your brightest filtered-light window to help it stay compact and happy.
This baby Alocasia likes its soil lightly and evenly moist, but never soggy. Let the top layer dry slightly between waterings, then water gently in small amounts. Like many tropical aroids, it appreciates higher humidity, especially during the dry heating season in European homes. Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature drops, as these can stress the plant quickly.
Use a chunky, airy aroid mix with good drainage. A blend with potting soil, bark, perlite, and a little coco coir works beautifully. Because this is a baby plant in a small P4 nursery pot, avoid overpotting too soon. Repot only once roots have filled the pot, ideally during spring or early summer when growth is active.
Not pet-safe. Like other Alocasias, this plant contains calcium oxalate crystals and should be kept out of reach of cats, dogs, and curious children. We recommend handling with care and washing hands after pruning or repotting.
Alocasia Clypeolata Green Shield grows from underground rhizomatous structures and can develop into a lush, upright foliage plant over time. In warm, bright indoor conditions it will gradually produce larger leaves with more dramatic texture and veining. Propagation is usually done by division when the plant is older and has formed offsets or corms.
During spring and summer, feed lightly every 4–6 weeks with a diluted houseplant fertiliser. In autumn and winter, growth may slow down naturally, and the plant will need less water and no heavy feeding. Alocasias can become semi-dormant in cooler, lower-light months, so do not panic if growth pauses. Keep temperatures comfortably warm and away from radiators or cold windowsills.
Alocasia clypeolata belongs to the Araceae family and is admired for its shield-shaped foliage, which inspired the name “clypeolata,” meaning shield-like. ‘Green Shield’ is loved by collectors for its compact habit, thick leaves, and bold venation. It is a tropical species best grown indoors in most parts of Europe, where warmth, humidity, and bright filtered light can be controlled more easily.
