Alocasia 'Polly' (Alocasia Γ amazonica) β Bold Beauty in a Compact Form
Fast EU shipping | Grown with love in the EU | Not pet-safe
Summary: With its striking arrowhead-shaped leaves and contrasting white veins, the Alocasia 'Polly' adds a touch of the tropics to any indoor space. This compact cultivar is perfect for European homes seeking a dramatic yet manageable houseplant.
β¨ Why You'll Love It
- Dramatic dark green leaves with bold white veining.
- Compact size ideal for apartments and small spaces.
- Adds an exotic flair to your indoor plant collection.
- A conversation starter with its unique foliage.
π Light & Placement
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. A spot near a north or east-facing window is ideal.
π§ Water & Humidity
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top 2β3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Prefers high humidity; consider using a humidifier or placing the plant on a pebble tray to maintain moisture levels.
πͺ΄ Soil & Potting
Use a well-draining, airy potting mix rich in organic matter. A blend of potting soil with perlite and orchid bark is ideal. Repot every 1β2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound.
πΎ Toxicity & Safety
Not pet-safe. Contains calcium oxalate crystals, which can be harmful if ingested by pets or humans. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
π± Growth & Propagation
A moderate grower with an upright habit. Propagate through division during repotting. Each division should have at least one growth point and a portion of the root system.
π Seasonal & Special Care
During the growing season (spring and summer), feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter. Maintain temperatures between 18Β°C to 25Β°C for optimal growth.
π Common Issues
Watch for pests like spider mites and mealybugs. Yellowing leaves may indicate overwatering or insufficient light. Ensure proper watering practices and adequate lighting to keep the plant healthy.
𧬠Botanical Background
Alocasia 'Polly' is a hybrid cultivar, believed to be a cross between Alocasia longiloba and Alocasia sanderiana. Despite its name, it doesn't originate from the Amazon but was developed in cultivation. Its striking appearance has made it a favorite among houseplant enthusiasts.

Super good packaging and the plant looked great! after just a few days after arrival a new leaf appeared, so I am super happy and canΒ΄t wait to have the little babies grow!
The Alocasia itself is beautiful and healthy, with a lovely new leaf already developing. However, the packaging method used for shipping was very disappointing. The pots were stacked together in a way that put strong pressure on the stems during transport for several days, which caused permanent bending on some petioles and damage to one leaf.
At first, my concerns were underestimated, but after additional photos and explanations, Plant Circle handled the situation professionally and offered a fair partial refund, which I appreciated.
So overall, the plant is beautiful, but the packaging method for large Alocasias clearly needs improvement.
The leaves were wrinkled from shipping.
The plant arrived with a torn leaf due to shipping.
Dropped 2 small leaves while in transit, but plant looks healthy
