✨ Why You'll Love the Ficus elastica 'Robusta'
- Large, oval leaves with a rich dark-green shine
- Excellent air-purifying qualities for healthier indoor air
- Thrives in bright living rooms, offices, and hallways
- Grows into a tall, tree-like presence—ideal for spacious corners
- Hardy and forgiving, perfect for plant parents of all levels
🌞 Light & Placement
Prefers bright, indirect light but tolerates light shade. Keep near an east- or west-facing window for best growth. Avoid harsh direct midday sun to prevent leaf burn.
💧 Water & Humidity
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feel dry. This plant appreciates moderate humidity, common in most European households. Wipe leaves regularly to keep them dust-free and glossy.
🪴 Soil & Potting
Use a well-draining, nutrient-rich soil mix with added perlite. Repot every 2–3 years as the plant grows taller and stronger. The P19 nursery pot size and H70 cm height make it an instant interior upgrade.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
Warning: Ficus elastica is toxic to pets if ingested. Keep away from curious cats and dogs.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
Can grow up to 2–3 meters indoors over time. Propagate easily by stem cuttings in spring or summer. With patience, cuttings root readily in water or soil.
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
During spring and summer, feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer. In winter, reduce watering and allow the plant to rest. Rotate occasionally for even growth.
🐛 Common Issues
- Yellowing leaves: usually from overwatering
- Drooping: may indicate underwatering
- Spider mites or scale: treat early with neem oil or insecticidal soap
🧬 Botanical Background
Native to Southeast Asia, the Ficus elastica is known as the “Rubber Plant” due to its historical use in rubber production. The ‘Robusta’ variety is prized in Europe for its resilience, bold leaf structure, and easy adaptability to indoor environments.
