Ficus Lyrata (Fiddle Fig) Medium
The Iconic Statement Plant Every European Home Deserves 🌿
Ficus Lyrata (Fiddle Leaf Fig) Medium | Fast EU shipping | Grown with love in the EU | Not pet-safe
Summary: With its bold, violin-shaped leaves and architectural presence, the Ficus Lyrata instantly elevates any space. This medium-sized beauty (P12, H35 cm) is perfect for German apartments seeking a stylish yet manageable indoor tree.
✨ Why You'll Love the Ficus Lyrata
- Striking, glossy fiddle-shaped leaves with dramatic veins
- Medium size (approx. 35 cm tall) — ideal for shelves, sideboards, or bright corners
- A timeless favourite among indoor plants for European homes
- Helps create a fresher, greener-feeling indoor climate
- Can grow into a gorgeous indoor tree with consistent care
- Perfect statement plant for modern German apartments
🌞 Light & Placement
Give your Ficus Lyrata bright, indirect light. An east or west-facing window is ideal; in Germany’s darker winter months, move it closer to a bright south-facing window (still avoiding harsh midday sun). Keep placement steady—this plant dislikes frequent moves.
💧 Water & Humidity
Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil is dry. Expect more frequent watering in spring/summer and less in autumn/winter. Aim for moderate humidity; occasional misting helps during dry heating season in many European homes.
- Never let the pot sit in standing water
- Use room-temperature water
- Good airflow helps prevent leaf issues
🪴 Soil & Potting
Use a chunky, well-draining mix (houseplant soil with added perlite and bark). Ensure the pot has drainage holes. Repot every 1–2 years in spring, or when roots start circling the pot.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
Not pet-safe. Like many ficus, it contains milky sap (latex) that can irritate mouths and stomachs if chewed by cats or dogs and may irritate sensitive skin. Place out of reach of pets and children.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
- Growth: Moderate to fast in bright light
- Indoor size potential: Up to 1.5–2 m over time
- Propagation: Stem cuttings (in water or moist substrate)
- Pruning: Encourages branching for a fuller shape
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
Feed monthly from March to September with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce feeding in winter. Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust and keep photosynthesis strong—especially helpful in low-light seasons.
🐛 Common Issues
- Leaf drop: Sudden changes, drafts, or overwatering
- Brown edges/spots: Inconsistent watering or very dry air
- Yellow leaves: Often a sign of overwatering/poor drainage
- Spider mites: More common in dry winter air—raise humidity and check undersides of leaves
🧬 Botanical Background
Ficus lyrata is native to West Africa and belongs to the Moraceae family. Indoors, it’s cherished for its sculptural growth and dramatic leaves—an evergreen classic that adapts well to bright European interiors.
