Create your own miniature indoor ecosystem with The Botanical Lab Terrarium Kit. This complete DIY set includes four humidity-loving baby plants, a large corked glass terrarium, planting substrates and stainless steel tools, giving you everything you need to build a lush, layered terrarium at home.
The plant selection combines different textures, colours and growth habits while sharing similar care requirements, making the finished terrarium both visually interesting and easier to maintain.
What’s included
- 1 × corked glass terrarium jar, approx. 31 cm high × 30 cm wide
- 1 × Asplenium nidus ‘Crispy Wave’, P6
- 1 × Fittonia ‘Joly Josan Red’, P6
- 1 × Fittonia White, P6
- 1 × Pilea ‘Moon Valley’, P6
- 1 L lava rocks
- 1 L cocopeat substrate
- 60 g activated charcoal
- 2-piece stainless steel terrarium tool set with mini rake and planting shovel
Assembly
- Add the lava rocks to the bottom of the jar to create a drainage layer.
- Spread the activated charcoal evenly over the rocks.
- Add the cocopeat substrate and gently shape the planting area.
- Remove the plants from their nursery pots and loosen the roots carefully.
- Arrange and plant them using the stainless steel tools, keeping enough space between plants for future growth.
- Water lightly after planting. The substrate should be evenly moist, never saturated.
Care
Place the terrarium in bright, indirect light and keep it away from strong direct sun, which can quickly overheat the glass.
Keep the substrate lightly moist and water sparingly. Because the corked vessel retains humidity, the terrarium will need considerably less water than conventional potted plants.
If heavy condensation remains on the glass for long periods, remove the cork temporarily to improve airflow. Occasional ventilation also helps keep the environment balanced.
Trim plants as needed to maintain the composition and remove any damaged or decaying leaves promptly.
Please note: Plants are living products and naturally vary in size, colour and growth habit.
