An elegant fern with an almost unreal, waxy shine
Asplenium dimorphum x difforme ‘Parvati’ (Austral Gem) | Fast EU shipping | Grown with love in the EU | Pet-safe
Summary: This hybrid fern brings the lush, ancient beauty of the forest indoors—without the usual fuss. Its glossy, deep green fronds stay tidy and vibrant all year round, making it ideal for stylish low-maintenance greenery in European homes.
✨ Why You'll Love the Austral Gem
- Unique cross between two Australian ferns—tougher and cleaner than most ferns
- Glossy, plastic-like fronds look fresh and sculptural
- Compact and slow-growing—great for desks, shelves, or small apartments
- Naturally resistant to pests and disease
- Thrives in low to medium light—perfect for German interiors
🌞 Light & Placement
Prefers bright, indirect light but tolerates lower light conditions well. Avoid direct sun which can scorch the fronds. Excellent for bathrooms, offices, or shaded corners in your home.
💧 Water & Humidity
Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy. This fern is less thirsty than typical Aspleniums, making it beginner-friendly. Loves higher humidity but adapts well to average indoor air—misting is optional but appreciated.
🪴 Soil & Potting
Use a well-draining fern or houseplant mix. Repot every 2–3 years if rootbound. Choose breathable pots with drainage to avoid overwatering issues.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
Pet-safe! Non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a worry-free choice for pet-loving plant parents.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
Slow-growing and compact, rarely outgrows its pot quickly. Propagation is not easy—this hybrid reproduces via spores but rarely does so indoors. Best enjoyed as a long-term leafy companion.
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
No dormancy period—stays green and full year-round. Reduce watering slightly in winter, but don’t let it fully dry out. Wipe fronds gently to remove dust and keep that glossy shine.
🐛 Common Issues
Very resilient. Rarely suffers from pests or disease. Brown fronds usually indicate overwatering or too much direct sun.
🧬 Botanical Background
This unique fern is a cultivated hybrid of Asplenium dimorphum and Asplenium difforme, native to Australia. 'Parvati' is its patented cultivar name, known in the trade as 'Austral Gem'—celebrated for its durability and ornamental charm.
